Eddie Wales was a much loved member of the guardians team at St Alban’s Church for many years, welcoming visitors to the Church on Sunday afternoons with a quiet smile and friendly manner. We remember too Eddie’s wife Ethel, who accompanied him to Sunday morning services from time to time. Together they had two daughters, Anita and Lilian. Anita is also well known to us in her role as occasional church photographer for special occasions. Eddie had a busy professional life as Sales Director for Burmester & Wain, and a full personal life with his grandchildren, golf, bridge, and volunteering for the Lions Club as well as for us here. Notwithstanding his American/Danish parentage, we at St Alban’s always think of Eddie as a perfect English gentleman. His birth in London resulted in a lifelong attachment to England, visible in his impeccable style of dress. Above all, we remember his courtesy, his warm laugh, and his great talent for friendship and welcome.
