Thank you so much IEAKI TAKEDA, Hiroyuki ISHIGE, Masa Sugano and Miya for such lovely and touching words about my father, whom I miss so much. I will be visiting the Expo in Osaka with my husband and two children on July 30 and we are very excited to see it all. We have been travelling in your beautiful country for 2 weeks now - a country that my father loved dearly and we can clearly see why. We have been received everywhere with the most kindness and we are incredibly impressed by so many many things in your society and general approach to life. Very inspiring. I am sure my father is with us in spirit during this visit in Japan. All my best to you all, Paula, Ole’s daughter

It is a lifelong memory for me that I was able to be with Your Excellency during the bid to host the Expo 2025. I will never forget how I felt when you told me you would help Japan’s bid. It was indeed a blessing from heaven. Japan successfully hosted the Expo 2025 because I kept the key points you taught me. I was looking forward to seeing you again at the opening ceremony of the Expo 2025 Osaka in April 2025, but it turned out to be an impossible dream. It is also a good memory that I guided you to Nakanoshima and Dotonbori in Osaka. Every time I walk through the streets of Osaka, I will remember you from now on. I ask that you continue to watch over me from the sky. May you rest in peace.

IEAKI TAKEDA, Director General of Events, Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition

Your Excellency, It is with a special sense of pity that you, a friend of Japan, have departed. As the Chairman of the BIE, you gave us valuable advice on implementing Expo Aichi 2005. You also graciously accepted the position of Senior Advisor when the Japanese bid to host the Expo 2025. You came to Japan and provided us with various helpful guidance. It is no exaggeration to say that it was thanks to you that Japan could host the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. We have been preparing to invite Your Excellency to the opening ceremony of Expo 2025 on April 12th next year to repay your kindness. However, we are incredibly saddened that it has become impossible. We ask you to watch from heaven for the success of Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai. We want to thank you again for your significant contributions. Please rest in peace.

Hiroyuki ISHIGE, Secretary General, Japan Association for the 2025 World Exposition

On behalf of the the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry of Japan and all those in the organisation who have had the honour of working together with Ambassador Philipson, I would like to express my deepest condolences to his family. Ambassador Philipson was a longstanding friend of Japan in the Expo arena, generously helping us navigate our way towards our winning bid to host Expo 2025 in Osaka. We would have very much loved to greet him in Japan next year at the event -- we will do everything we can to make sure that Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, Japan will be an event worthy of the numerous advice that Ambassador Philipsen has provided us. We are saddened by his sudden departure and hope that his soul may rest in peace.

Masa Sugano, Director for International Exhibitions, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, Japan

Dear Paula-san, I would like to send my deepest condolences to you and your family on the loss of your father. I am deeply shocked and saddened by the news of him. I am privileged to have had the opportunity to work with him through Expo 2005 in Japan. The success of it never achieved without his contribution. I am also grateful for his long-time friendship to me and my colleagues. I will really miss him and always cherish the memories of him. When I lost my father, he kindly sent a message, “It is always very hard to loose a parent, very hard. So i think of you and send a great big and affectionate hug.” Now he will live in your heart with a big and affectionate hug. In deepest sympathy.

Miya
