Our sincere condolences to friends and family of Johannes. The Icelandic atronomical community will be forever grateful for his pivotal role in the membership of Iceland to the Nordic Optical Telescope, creating valuable opportunities for young scientists. The photo shows Johannes and Mr. Bjarnason, the Icelandic minister of education, signing the Iceland membership agreement in 1997. You will be remembered and missed.

The accompanying picture shows Johannes and the Icelandic Minister of education signing the NOT agreement with Iceland in 1997. You will be missed.
