Dear Torben’s family, I worked closely to Torben for a couple of years at the EBU, including during the time of his diagnosis, absences for treatment, then his eventual return to work. His desk was in the EBU Communications unit, next to mine, and we probably spent as much time laughing and swapping stories as doing actual work. Torben and I had cancer in common, because my son had also been diagnosed aged two years old, and this bleak reality sealed a distinct bond between us. He was candid and courageous about his tribulations and fears without allowing them to define him. He was resolutely upbeat, never saw himself as a victim despite very challenging circumstances, and never, ever lost his sense of humour. Torben was a ray of sunshine and it is an honour to have called him a friend. Love and strength to you all. xx

Dear fellow 9 of Juner, dear Torben, we used to joke how special those born on 9 June were. Indeed, you were special. Your sense of humour is legendary, your positive attitude and easy-going personality made you everybody’s favourite. Thank you for being such a great EBU colleague. You will be sorely missed and the world just got duller. Rest in peace, dear gemini. My heartfelt condolences go out to your family and friends.

Dear Eriksen Family, I was deeply saddened to hear the news. Please accept my condolences. I also worked closely beside and with Torben when he was at the EBU. We all wanted to let you know how much he was loved here in Geneva. Never a day went by without Torben smiling or brightening our day with his wonderful sense of humour. He was a role model to all of us and anyone who has ever had to face adversity in life. Torben helped shape my role and nurture my interest in digital design. I will always be grateful to him for this. He often shared stories of you, and how happy he was to see you when he got a chance to fly back. He also sweetened our lives by feeding us a lot of chocolate bars on a regular basis! We will miss him greatly. My deepest sympathies to all of you, Amy

Dear Annette, dear family, I am deeply saddened to hear that dear Torben passed away and wished to send you my support and sincere condolences. We were colleagues in Geneva, but Torben was so much more than that to me. He was always there for us, available to provide advice of course, and also just talk. About life, about you, his dear wife and family whom he missed a lot when living in Geneva. Torben is a good person, the kind that makes the world a better place. I’ll always remember, the last time we saw each other, he took me in his arms and told me “Don’t ever change”. Coming from him, it meant so much. We always kept in touch after that and were waiting times when I could come and visit in Denmark. Please let me know if there is anything I can do, I’ll always cherish our memories. The EBU would like to pay its respects too, would you be ready to share your address with me ? Warm thoughts to all of you, Marie-Soleil Levéry
