In the early nineties we for the first time encountered Jørgen in the Ardennes at the In the Footsteps of the 82nd Airborne March. A peculiar but funny person who seemed to know his way around the Belgian people and 82nd Airborne veterans and families. In the years that followed we develop a friendship with Jørgen. At that time we called him Mr. Denmark which he didn’t seem to mind. Around the year 2000 Jørgen also appeared at the Market Garden events in the Nijmegen - Groesbeek area. It was than we started to know him better - became good friends and invited him back every year. He almost always stayed at The Old Mill in Groesbeek. He rapidly made more friends in the Netherlands. We all loved his sense of humor, his stories and serious involvement in the ceremonies. Placing a bouquet himself at the general Gavin Monument in Groesbeek stirred up a lot of emotions in him. Not being able to travel anymore must have been very harsh for him. Jørgen will forever be in our hearts.
